1970

  • The LT1 small block that produces a remarkable 370 HP and the 454 big block were introduce.

  • The first year of the ZR1 performance option that made use of the LT1 370 HP small block engine.

  • The delay in the start of production cause sales to decrease only 17,316 units were sold, the lowest since 1962.

1971

  • A special purpose big block engine which produces 425 HP was available.

  • The fiber optic warning lights that was  introduced in 1968 was gone after 1971.

  • Last year of order the Corvette with the Muncie M-22 (Rock Crusher) transmission.

1972

  • The exterior color for 1972 was the Pewter Silver only.

  • 1972 had amber front turning lamps and chrome plating on the egg-crate grills that differs it from 1971.

  • The only year A/C with the LT1 engine option was accessible.

  • In 1972, The big block engine don't have a horsepower rating sticker on the air cleaner for the first time.

  • 1972, the first time the horsepower was measured as "net" rather than gross.

  • The chrome bumper at both ends of the car lasted in 1972.

1973

  • The chrome bumper was replaced by the "soft nose".

  • Only 30,464 units were built.

  • A steel beams inside the doors as a side impact safety feature has been added.

  • An aluminum wheels was offered in 1973 as an option unfortunately these wheels failed to maintain air pressure and were discontinued for the next 3 years.

  • 4,000 serial numbers between 24001 and 28000 were missing in the 1973 production. 

1974

  • The rear bumper was made in two separate pieces for the first time.

  • There was an increase in the width of 10 inches in the rear view mirror.

  • The true dual exhaust and the Big Block engine lasted in 1974

  • The last year that Corvette runs on a 'leaded' gasoline.

  • Rear "rubber" bumper was made in 2 pieces because of some shortcomings in the manufacturing process, it was later improved in the following year, thus 1975-1982 models were using a one piece unit already.

  • Gymkhana Suspension Package (RPO - FE7) was introduce.

1975

  • HEI distributor debuts in 1975.

  • Because of the declining sales and some safety concerns 1975 was the last year for the convertible until 1986.

  • The catalytic converter on Corvettes was introduced.

  • There were only 4,629 convertibles built for this year.
